Trying to Remember a Dream

Now

  Colorado Looks like California Now

Well I guess these folks got tired of the city
And they started moving out this way in droves
Now we've got bulldozers starin' down the fields behind our house
Construction workers widening the roads

First they built the Fox Hills gated subdivision
Then came the Meadowlark Estates within a year
That drove the foxes from their dens and they ain't comin' home again
And the meadowlarks have all but disappeared

Yes I regret that Colorado looks like California now
Little pieces of our past are sellin' fast for zero down
Wasn't long ago, I thought this place was sacred ground
But Colorado looks like California now
Colorado looks like California now

Wal-Mart came and cornered all the business
Then mom and pop shut down the corner store
Now I don't recognize my town, it's like they turned it upside down
And I don't even know my neighbors anymore

Yes I regret that Colorado looks like California now
I lost my piece of paradise
And I don't want what I've found
Wasn't long ago, I thought this place was sacred ground
But Colorado just looks like California now
Colorado looks like California now

If it were up to me I'd go and tear those places down
Cause Colorado looks like California now....
